希臘左派總理齊普拉斯從公投後瀕臨脫歐的邊緣懸崖勒馬，與國際債權方復談新紓困案，據若干觀察家認為，這項發展應歸功於法國鼎力相助。
多家歐美媒體指出，法國財政部派遣了一個10人專家小組前往雅典，協助希臘確保改革包裹方案符合債權方的要求，而歐盟執委會對此過程也很清楚。
法國原本對希臘危機低調不表態，但希臘總理齊普拉斯兩周前出其不意宣布將紓困條件交付公投後，態度丕變。當時歐元區各國炮聲隆隆，紛紛高分貝警告希臘公投說不，等同於選擇退出歐元區，但法國當局卻堅稱希臘脫歐不是選項。
法國官員賣力為希臘鼓吹新紓困協議，並響應希臘呼籲減記債務的訴求。法國經濟部長馬克洪還稱，對希臘紓困不能搞成另一紙《凡爾賽和約》，意指不能像第一次世界大戰後那樣，使德國背負難以為繼的債務，從而促成納粹德國的崛起。
法國也重視與希臘的文化親真人線上英語教學緣（指古希臘是西方文明的搖籃）。法國前總統季斯卡在1970年代討論希臘加入歐盟的議題時曾說：「我們不能讓柏拉圖在歐洲的門口鵠候。」如今，歐盟經濟事務專員莫斯科維奇則呼應說：「我們不能把柏拉圖逐出歐洲。」
此外，法國總統奧朗德的社會黨政府也有國內政治的考量，亦即必須迎合日趨不滿的黨內左翼和選民。畢竟法國經濟本身也陷於險境，國會甫於10日通過旨在刺激停滯經濟的改革方案。而不久前法國人曾是歐洲反撙節陣營首要擁護者。
奧朗德原本反對德國主導的泛歐撙節政策，而主張擴增公共支出刺激經濟，但他2012年贏得總統寶座後，始終未能如願讓德國總理梅克爾讓步，反而是奧朗德政府的經濟政策在3年後改弦易轍，也推行諸如勞動市場改革的措施。
希臘前財長瓦魯法奇斯即在英國《衛報》的投書中見縫插針，指稱德國財長蕭伯希望希臘被迫退出歐元區，以脅迫法國接受他堅持的「歐元區財政紀律模式」。如今奧朗德出手救希臘，正是他在左翼陣營重建信譽的最佳機會。
